Overview
Starting from Monemvasia, passing through vast olive, orange and lemon groves next to the riverbank of the mythical Evrotas river, smelling the summer aromas of the area, you will see on the foot of Taygetos Mountain a hill on which the Byzantine Town of Mystras is located. Mystras is an exceptional example of a well preserved fortified Byzantine city, a World Cultural Heritage Monument protected by Unesco since 1989. Take a guided tour, which lasts approximately two hours, of the town and learn about the history of the castle-town. Visit the churches and the monastery of Pantanassa, the only place that is inhabited nowadays. The palace and the fortresses are typical examples of Byzantine architecture. Admire the breathtaking view of Evrotas plain and Sparta from the upper town. Mystras is the place that the Present meets the Past. After your visit to Mystras enjoy a meal of local traditional cuisine in a restaurant in Parori.
